David E. Gontz
DOVER — David E. Gontz, 70, formerly of Linglestown, entered rest Saturday morning, January 31, 2026, at his home. He was the loving husband of Cynthia R. (Hawk) Gontz. The couple celebrated 24 years of marriage on March 17, 2025.
Born January 11, 1956, Dave was the son of the late Richard and Betty (Sherwin) Gontz.
He was a 1973 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School and retired in June of 2016 after more than 36 years of service with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, where he worked as a computer operator.
Dave was a member of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America; the York Pointer & Setter Club of Wellsville; and the Dover Fish & Game Association. He had a lifelong passion for dogs, especially his beloved bird dogs, and was deeply involved in the world of dog shows through breeding, judging, and active participation. Through his kennel, Von Eugen Shorthairs, Dave took great pride in breeding and exhibiting German Shorthaired Pointers, a pursuit that brought him both joy and lifelong friendships. Beyond his love of dogs, Dave cherished his family, held a deep faith in God, and was a devoted and loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by a daughter, Kathleen A. Mosier of Lemoyne; three sons, Oliver Mosier of Lemoyne, Daniel Negrete of Worton, Maryland, and Matthew Negrete and his wife, Hannah, of Berlin, Maryland; and two cherished granddaughters, Juniper and Hazel.
Dave will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, and the love he shared with all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Following cremation, a memorial service will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, February 7, 2026, with a visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover.
